St. Anthony's has a fantastic Green Team, guided by Mme Saxton.  Please check here regularly for Green Team news!

Green Team

Green School

St. Anthony's School prides itself on being a "green" school.  We do this by being conscious of our impact on our planet and trying to recycle and reduce our footprint.

We are working with our students to learn to sort the garbage.  We also hope to have less garbage come to the school.

You can help by buying things in bulk and using reusable containers.  If we all do this, think of the impact!

Green Christmas

Green Christmas

St. Anthony’s Green Team is hoping you will keep the planet in mind this year as you do your shopping and prepare for the holiday season.

Christmas can be a stressful time trying to get all the decorations just right and all the presents bought and wrapped. The celebration of Christ’s birth however is about so much more than garland and gifts. This year we encourage you to think about ways of consuming less and enjoying more time with family and friends.

1. Invest in fabric gift bags or add a ribbon to an old pillow case in lieu of paper wrapping that is often not even recyclable.

2. Give experiences rather than items (e.g. a massage, tickets to a play or a membership to something).

3. Give the gift of your time, something homemade (like baking) or make a donation in someone’s name to one of their favourite charities.

4. Use natural materials to decorate. Natural evergreen trees & clippings provide a wonderful holiday scent.

5. If you are buying gifts, shop local and think about buying used if and when possible.

6. Limit the amount of gifts being purchased for your children. A great 4 gift rule is:  something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.

7. Avoid disposable plates, cutlery and cups. Ask family members to bring their own crockery if you don’t have enough.

8. Give battery-free gifts or items made from recycled materials when possible.

9. For extended family and groups of friends, choose names instead of getting something for everyone.  This takes a lot of stress out of the season for all involved.

10. Put your Christmas lights and tree on a timer to avoid forgetting to turn them off.

Green Team Compost
As we continue working on boomerang lunches we have noticed that we have more compost scraps then we can use. We are looking for someone with livestock who would be interested in collecting school compost over the winter months.  If you know of anyone please contact the office.

Thank you for your assistance.

Recycle at Home vs School

You may have noticed there are quite a few differences between what can be recycled at school vs what can be recycled at home.  There is a green hand-out in the main office to help you and your child(ren) remember the differences.

If you are not yet familiar with the TerraCycle program, please see our Facebook page:
