Earth Week!
Earth

St. Anthony's Earth Week will be celebrated Monday April 24, 2017 to Friday April 28.

Monday afternoon will be annual spring clean-up (Tuesday morning if weather is too wet on Monday). Grade K-3 classes will clean-up on the schoolyard and around the church. Grade 4-8 classes (including Greenley and Thompson) will head off school property for community clean-up (12:45-2:00pm.

Please contact the school if you are available to chaperone for any of these classes.

On Monday morning maps will be provided with assigned areas to clean with classes as well as large garbage bags. If you have smaller grocery bags at home it would be great to have some for garbage pick up.

Students are encouraged to wear green on Monday for Earth day.

Thursday will be our annual "Stuff Swap".  Students are encouraged to bring in toys, stuffies and games they no longer play with to trade for something "new to them.

Each class will receive strips of plastic on Monday and each class can do something creative with the plastic, such as create an art piece, something functional or anywhere your imagination takes you.  You may use other items to complete your project but 90% of final item must be recycled materials.

FINAL PRODUCTS DUE BY END OF DAY THURSDAY TO ALLOW VOTING TO HAPPEN ON FRIDAY.  PLEASE CLEARLY LABEL YOUR CREATION WITH CLASS NAME AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM.

Thank you as always for your enthusiasm in encouraging environmental stewardship among our students.

GREEN TEAM NEWS

Ready, Set, GoGo!

GoGO squeeZ

With your help our school could win a picnic table made entirely out of recycled food pouches!

GoGo squeeZ is excited to partner with TerraCycle to bring you the opportunity to earn a picnic table made from snack pouch waste! To win, your school must earn the most GoGo Credits by the end of the promotion.

You can cast one vote per day here:

Waste-Free Wednesdays

Every Wednesday is waste-free lunch day at St. Anthony's.  The classroom with the least garbage wins the "Golden Garbage Can" for the week, plus they get 50 green points toward our monthly Eco-Champ competition.

Collection Items

If you have any of the following recycled items we would gladly take them for recycled crafts:

juice can lids, jewel CD cases, corks, baby food jars, colourful bottle lids (ie pop or juice).

Terracycle

Terracycle has unfortunately closed the following brigades:  pens/markers, juice pouches and cookie bags.

If you have any of these items at home to be recycled, please get them in ASAP (before October 10!).  The only items still accepted are Lunchable trays, food pouches, cereal bags, handheld electronics, toner cartridges, cigarette butts and outer milk bags (please flatten).

Recycle at Home vs School

You may have noticed there are quite a few differences between what can be recycled at school vs what can be recycled at home.  There is a green hand-out in the main office to help you and your child(ren) remember the differences.

If you are not yet familiar with the Terracycle program, please see our Facebook page:
